MARC WINKEL FOTOGRAFIE

About

I am a Berlin‑London based freelance art and architecture photographer, celebrated for my refined eye, versatile technique and deep respect for both structure and atmosphere. Since turning professional in the mid‑90s i have cultivated a career that bridges artistic expression with architectural documentation.

Born in Düren, Germany, i started exploring photography as a teenager. Buying my first SLR at age 14 and teaching myself the craft up to large format analog cameras. I studied economics in Cologne but soon got committed to photography as my full‑time creative focus.

In 2005 i co‑founded the photographic duo Koy + Winkel Fotografie together with Thomas Koy in Berlin. Our collaboration emerged from shared values: the importance of materiality, the interplay of light and shadow and the ability of images to enhance design and architectural works.

My work spans a range of architectural and design projects—interior spaces, facades, building enlargements, landscapes, exhibitions and the beauty of nature. My images have appeared in architectural publications, fairs and catalogs. I have documented large‑scale projects, collaborating with architects, engineering and wood construction firms.

Known for a thoughtful, detail‑oriented approach i shape my photography around natural light and material authenticity. My style tends to bring out textures, form and spatial dynamics in a way that balances aesthetic elegance with functional clarity.

Within his professional photography i am engaged in visual storytelling in broader cultural/design contexts—documenting trade fairs like HANNOVERMESSE offering my visual perspective to diverse design‑driven projects.

I genuinely love my work — especially the freedom and flexibility that come with being a freelancer. It lets me stay creative and true to myself.
